Fire Next Door (skit/lesson)

Rescue any who need to be saved, as you would rescue someone from a fire. Jude 1:23
Two friends are hanging out when the one smells smoke and looks out the window to see smoke coming from the neighbor’s second story window. He panics and calls for the other to go warn the neighbors. The second friend calmly lists reasons why he cannot. (“I don’t know them very well,” “I’m not sure if they will believe me,” “I’m not a firefighter,” “I don’t do well in emergencies.”) The first friend is appalled and runs out to warn the neighbors.
Skit follow-up: Today we’re talking about the power that you have as a person. You may not feel very powerful: maybe you don’t have big muscles or you’re not the best player on the ball team. But God’s Word says that you have tremendous power because if you are a child of God you have God’s Spirit living inside of you (Romans 8). You can make a difference in others by sharing God’s salvation with them. You can make a difference in others by warning them about the danger of sin in their lives. You can make a difference by introducing people to Jesus.
You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to know all the right words. Even if you’re shy, you can tell someone about Jesus. You can make a difference and save a life for eternity. Don’t let excuses get in your way: Make a difference by sharing God’s love today.

God’s Spirit doesn’t make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 (CEV)
Props: picture of a lighted neon sign and the same sign unlit
(Show picture of lighted sign).
- I’m sure you’ve all seen signs like this. But have you ever thought about why stores and businesses have signs? They put signs up because they have a message to tell everyone. They want to let everyone know that they are open, or that there is a sale.
- You and I have been given the most important message of all to give to people: we are to let them know about God’s love and the salvation that comes through His Son, Jesus.
- When you are filled with God’s power, He will make you bold and you will be like this sign, shining for all to see. Everyone will be able to see the love of God and his light shining through your life and coming out in your actions and words.
(Show unlit sign).
- This sign still has the same message, but it’s much harder to see.
- Maybe your life is filled with God’s love, but people can’t see it because you’re not plugged into God’s power. You might have a hard time talking about your faith and love for God. You might get embarrassed when someone asks you about God, the Bible or church.
- When you plug into the power of God’s Spirit, you will shine brightly for God. There will be no missing your message.
- The power of God’s Spirit will make you bold. Allow His power to fill you and make you shine for Him!
Don’t Lose Even One!

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
Props: stack of “million” dollar bills
Imagine with me that you have 100 million-dollar bills. How would you feel if you lost one? (Allow for response). A million dollars is very valuable. So even if you had 100 million-dollar bills, you wouldn’t want to lose even one.
God values each of us, even more than a million dollars. The Bible says that “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 NIV) If someone doesn’t accept the love of God and His forgiveness, they will not go to heaven. That means they will spend forever away from God, separated from Him. God doesn’t want even one person to miss Him. He wants everyone to hear about and accept His love.
Boys and girls, it’s your job and my job to tell others about Jesus. Each person is valuable and needs to hear about His love.
