Actions Speak Louder than Words

A man becomes right with God by what he does and not by faith only.
James 2:24 (NLV)

Props: blue clothing and accessories, soda, potato chips, magazine

They say that actions speak louder than words. And that’s what today’s lesson is all about. What you do shows others how you really feel and what you really believe.
What if I say my favorite color is red, but everything I own is blue? (Point out your blue clothing/accessories). What if I say I eat only healthy food, but every time you see me, I’m drinking soda and eating potato chips? (Take a drink of soda and eat some chips). And how about if I say I’m you’re friend, but I ignore you when you talk to me? (Read a magazine and don’t look up while a helper tries to get your attention). You would know that I don’t really mean what I say.

Some people say they love God, but they never obey His commands.
Others may come to church and look really good on the outside, but in their heart they are full of anger, rebellion, bad attitudes or greed. God cares about what you say and what you do. He cares about your outward actions and your inner attitudes. If you really love God, it will show on the outside. And God sees your heart as well. He knows if you truly love Him. So love God in what you say and do.
